PHOTOGRAPHS, AUTOGRAPHS, PRINTED & MANUSCRIPT EPHEMERA

TOOVEY'S conduct specialist sales of photographs, autographs, printed and manuscript ephemera three times a year which are combined with the sales of antiquarian and collectors' books, postcards and cigarette cards due to the inherent link among collectors and traders. The ephemera section includes early photographs, such as daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and albumen-prints, individually and within albums; autographs from the early stage stars, literary characters and prominent people to modern day celebrities; printed & manuscript ephemera can include early legal documents, printed leaflets, programmes and maps.

Pictured right: very rare George II brown calf and paper toll pass, dated 1744, measuring 7cm x 5.5cm. This pass would have given the owner permission to travel within royal estates rather than a wider system of turnpike and toll roads.  It was entered for auction by a member of the Tyrwhitt Drake family, whose ancestral home in Shardloes near Amersham. Sold for £1800.
