A Chinese celadon jade carving of an elephant, Qing dynasty, finely modelled with a profusion of folds and wrinkles and wearing a saddle cloth carved in low relief with bats, and accompanied by two boys, one clambering on its back with a ruyi sceptre, the other standing beside its head holding a branch of coral, the celadon green stone with russet inclusions, length approx 8cm. Provenance: this figure was purportedly given as a gift to the vendor's father at the end of the Second World War by the Siemens family in Berlin.
