LOT 350
A James II silver large chinoiserie footed salver, the circular top flat-chased with a continuous border of four Oriental figures, two long-legged birds and further birds in flight amongst palm trees and other foliage, beneath sunrays emerging from clouds and further clouds, all framed within spiked matted bands, raised on a reel-shaped foot, London 1688 by Benjamin Yate (maker's mark YT), diameter approx 34.3cm. Note: a similarly decorated but smaller footed salver was sold in Sotheby's sale of early English silver from the collection of the late Charles L. Poor, New York, 26th October 2005, lot number 101. In the same sale a William and Mary silver two handled cup, lot 95, dated 1689, bearing 'YT' maker's mark, was attributed to Benjamin Yate.
