A fine Scottish silver mounted, willow bound walnut quaich, probably early 18th Century, of exceptional size and rare tri-lugged form, the twelve staves centred with a silver boss, engraved with owner's initials 'IG' within a foliate cartouche, the handles with (possibly later) engraved rocaille, maker's mark 'AF' to central boss, diameter of bowl approx 23.5cm. Note: a smaller, twin lugged example is illustrated in Owen Evan-Thomas' Domestic Utensils of Wood, Stobart Davies, 1992, plate 3.
