An interesting 19th century Battle of Waterloo relic display, comprising a French embroidered cockade and a pressed metal Prussian eagle, mounted on a red lacquer panel, detailed in gilt 'Waterloo' within a border of radiating lines, 22.75cm x 13.75cm, within a glazed ebonized box frame, 28cm x 19cm, the back with easel stand and glazed aperture displaying a hand-written note: 'A French cockade and Prussian eagle picked up by Miss White on the field of Waterloo, three days after the battle June 18th 1815, and presented by her to Mr Ashcombe of Winchester. In April 1882 given by his daughters Elizabeth and Theodosia Ashcombe to their nephew George Stephen Walker conditionally that it be kept as an heirloom in his family'.
