A rare group of seven First World War period British and French medals and decorations awarded to Nursing Sister Annie Alexander, comprising Royal Red Cross, second class, with the original Garrard & Co case, Military Medal, George V issue, to 'N.Sister A.Alexander. Q.A.HPL:-B.R.C.S.', 1914-15 Star to 'A.Alexander. B.R.C.& St. J.J.', 1914-18 British War Medal and 1914-19 Victory Medal to 'A.Alexander. B.R.C.& St. J.J.', French M‚daille d'Honneur des Epid‚mies en vermeil, named 'Miss A.Alexander 1920', with the original named case, and Belgian L'Arm‚e … ses InfirmiŠres nursing medal, named 'Alexander A', with various related original and copied paperwork and photographs. Note: during the First World War, only 127 Military Medals were awarded to women, in comparison to 115,589 awarded to men.
