LOT 304
An Arts and Crafts silver caster, circa 1900, designed by Charles Robert Ashbee, the pierced dome top cover above a slender waisted stem applied with three red cabochons, on a spreading foot with bead decoration, unmarked, height approx 6.5cm. Provenance: Arthur Currer Briggs (1855-1906), Mayor of the City of Leeds (1903-04) and Alderman of the City of Leeds (1904-06), thence by direct family descent to the present owner. Note: a memorial to Arthur Currer Briggs, designed by Sir William Hamo Thornycroft, was erected in Lawnswood Cemetery, Leeds, in 1908 and is now a Grade II listed structure.
