A Chinese Canton carved export ivory 'King George' chess set, early 19th Century, the Chinese side stained red, the Europeans left natural, the white king and queen as George III and Queen Charlotte, bishops as Christian Bishops, knights as cavalrymen, rooks as elephants and pawns as footsoldiers, all raised on lotus carved oval bases, height of king approx 10.7cm (one red knight and two white pawns missing and some faults).
