POTTER, Beatrix. The Tale of Peter Rabbit. London & New York: Frederick Warne and Co., [n.d. but 1902.] First edition, 1st, 2nd or 3rd printing, 4to (137 x 104mm.) Coloured frontispiece and 30 coloured illustrations by Potter. (Occasional browning, light spotting or old creasing.) Original dark green paper-covered boards with coloured paper onlay to upper cover, leaf pattern endpapers (joints splitting, hinges split, all leaves now loosely inserted, frontispiece detached). Note: p.51 states 'wept big tears', 'O' on cover and spine with dots in centre, and the leaf-pattern endpapers, all indicate an early printing of this first edition. Linder p. 421.
