							LOT 1195
Two Chinese 'Belitung wreck' pottery bowls, 9th Century, each of circular form, the interiors painted with green and ochre scrolls/vapours on a cream ground beneath a brown rim, diameters approx 15.4cm x 15.8cm. Note: the Belitung wreck was found by fishermen off the Indonesian island of Belitung in 1998. It was the first and only Arab ship to be found in Asia and the only one in the world with a complete cargo. This find and subsequent excavation in 1998 and 1999 gives insight into the trade routes between China and the Middle East during this period.
