Old French calf elaborately tooled in gilt, the covers with a wide decorative border enclosing a semé made up from a fleur-de-lys tool and a crowned 'L', the semé surrounding a centrally placed wreath containing the royal French arms, the spine in seven compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with a repeat overall semé echoing the covers (scuffed, bumped and rubbed, spine torn with loss).
