SOWERBY, John (illustrator). The Ferns of Great Britain. London: John E. Sowerby, 1855. 8vo (235 x 145mm.) 49 hand-coloured plates at rear. (Some browning, occasional spotting.) Near contemporary half-calf, spine gilt in five compartments with raised bands, lettering to second and fourth compartments, the others with foliate decoration in gilt, t.e.g. (extremities scuffed and rubbed). Provenance: Percy E. Coombe (ink inscription to title dated 1898and presentation inscription to 'Criss with kind love from Percy E. Coombe July 1903').
