[GOETHE, Johann Wolfgang von.] The Sorrows of Werter: A German Story… a new edition. London: printed for J. Dodsley, 1784. 2 vols., 8vo (154 x 89mm.) (Light browning, occasional minor spotting and soiling, some worm damage.) Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettering pieces to second and fourth compartments (extremities bumped and scuffed, some worm damage to boards). Provenance: Robert Parmeter of Aylsham (inscription to preliminary blank in both volumes); Joyce Cary (label to front pastedown in both volumes).
