"POPE, Alexander. The Works of Mr. Alexander Pope. London: W. Bowyer, 1717. Folio (293 x 187mm.) (Browning, spotting and some offsetting.) Near contemporary calf blocked in blind (rebacked, extremities bumped and scuffed with some loss to leather, some damp staining, endpapers replaced). Provenance: Gilbert R. Redgrave (bookplate to front pastedown and inscription to front-free endpaper dated 1896 with the note 'This was the first collected edition of the works of Pope… The Elegy, here termed ""Verses"", (p. 358) is surely one of the most beautiful compositions in the English language.'); Peter Cary (inscription to front-free endpaper dated 1945). "
