BEWICK, Thomas (illustrator). The Fables of Aesop… the second edition. Newcastle: E. Walker, 1823. 4to (210 x 125mm.) Extra-illustrated with a subscription receipt dated January 1, 1824 and numbered 191 bound at front, numerous illustrations by Bewick. (Browning and spotting.) Contemporary half-calf, spine in six compartments with raised bands, tooled in gilt and blind, lettering piece to second compartment (extremities lightly bumped and scuffed, rebacked with old spine laid down, hinges repaired). Provenance: Isabella Judith Maria Loraine Smith (inscription to title-page).
