JAMES I. His Majesties Instructions to his Dearest Sonne, Henry the Prince. Edinburgh: printed by Robert Walde-grave, 1603. 8vo (150 x 97mm.) (Some soiling and light browning.) Mid-19th Century calf, the covers panelled in gilt and blind, the spine gilt in five compartments with raised bands, lettering piece in the second, the others with repeat decoration in gilt (extremities scuffed and rubbed, upper cover detached, endpapers replaced, preliminary blank loosely inserted and annotated in ink with quote from the Basilicon Doron 'This Book was written by King James I in 1599 for the instruction of his son Prince Henry who died in 1612 to the great sorrow of the people, but little regretted by the King who was jealous of his abilities & virtues'). STC 14349. Provenance: David Bratt (presentation inscription dated July 1855 to front-free endpaper). - And one other volume by Richard Baxter ('The Saints Everlasting Rest', London: printed for Thomas Underhill, 1658. 4to) (2).
