London: John Murray, 1851. 8vo (198 x 123mm.) 1 double-page map, 1 folding map, 1 key, 32pp. advertisements at rear. (Light browning and spotting, contents page loosely inserted, offsetting to folding map, marginal tear with minor loss to p.ix.) Original cloth blocked in gilt and blind (extremities bumped and scuffed, spine faded, joints splitting). Provenance: Queens College Belfast (blindstamp to title-page); Michael Gilkes (bookplate to front pastedown). - And a later edition of the manual (Robert BALL (editor). 'A Manual of Scientific Enquiry… fifth edition'. London: Eyre and Spottiswoode, 1886). Provenance: M.J.E. Bower (signature to front-free endpaper); The Michael Gilkes Collection (2).
