JACKSON, E.L. St. Helena: The Historic Island from its Discovery to the Present Date. New York: Thomas Whittaker, 1905. First edition, 8vo (215 x 135mm.) Numerous uncoloured plates. (Browning and spotting.) Original cloth, upper-cover blocked in gilt with embossed gilt medallion, spine gilt (extremities bumped and scuffed). Note: Michael Gilkes travelled on the RMS St Helena to Tristan da Cunha in 1996, on his return he bought this copy of Jackson's St Helena. - And three other volumes by Robin Castell relating to St. Helena (including: 'St. Helena, John Charles Melliss… A reprint of his valuable and inspiring work originally published in 1875.' Chesham: Wensley Brown, 1979. Presentation copy signed by the author dated January 1980). Provenance: The Michael Gilkes Collection (4).
