First edition, 2 vols., 8vo (222 x 142mm.) Portrait frontispieces, three folding maps, numerous illustrations many full-page. (Some spotting and light browning, 1 map torn without loss.) Original cloth blocked in black and gilt (extremities bumped and chipped, slightly soiled). Provenance: S.A. Mead (inscription dated 2/7/90 to reverse of front-free endpaper).
