A mid-19th century cast brass novelty inkwell in the form of a dog's head, the hinged top enclosing a matched ceramic liner above an articulated spring mouth, raised on a shaped dish base, width 16cm, together with another late 19th century brass dog's head inkwell. Provenance: from the estate of the late Nellie Lenson-Smith (1928-2017).
