[BRUCE, James]. Earl of Elgin. Letters and Journals of James, Eighth Earl of Elgin… edited by Theodore Walrond. London: John Murray, 1872. 8vo (215 x 132mm.) (Some browning to endpapers.) Near contemporary red half-morocco (sunning to spine, extremities rubbed). Provenance: Robert Milnes-Crewe (bookplate to the front pastedown); The West Horsley Place Collection. - And eight more volumes relating to European history (including The Duke of Argyll's 'The Eastern Question', 2 vols., first edition, 1879, 8vo). Note: 'The Eastern Question' contains a 15pp. handwritten letter from Sir Edward Thorton, diplomat who held posts in Turkey, Russia and America (9).
