SMITH, Hubert Llewellyn. The New Survey of London Life and Labour. London: P.S. King, 1931-1934. 9 vols. (7 vols. text & 2 vols. maps). First editions except vol. 1 (a 1934 reprint), 8vo (217 x 136mm.) Frontispieces, numerous charts and folding maps, 13 large folding maps in the map volume pockets. (Small stamps to corners of the large maps and to frontispieces.) Original blue cloth (residue of labels, or reference numbers to spines, lightly bumped). Note: Hubert Llewellyn Smith was a civil servant heavily involved in pre-war economic policy and this survey of working-class households in London was undertaken to research the changes since Charles Booth's survey of 1889. Provenance: Worthing Public Library (bookplate to front pastedowns) (9).
