A Japanese carved ebonized, red lacquered and silk embroidered four-fold screen, Meiji period, each black ground silk panel finely worked in predominantly cream, silver and white threads with a design of birds flying between wisteria and other flowers, including peonies, chrysanthemums and poppies, each frame carved in relief with flowers and scrolling tendrils, and inset with carved and pierced red lacquered panels of further flowers, the reverse painted with a continuous landscape view, height 197cm, total length 270cm.
