SCOTLAND. - David PARKER. [A hand-written history of the repair of the Cockburn tombstone in Henderland, Scotland. N.p: 1848]. 4pp. manuscript, small folio (274 x 199mm.) Title in red, blue and black, a drawing of the monumental stone over the grave of William Cockburn, a small watercolour drawing of a knight and 2pp. hand-written history of the repair of the tomb by William Murray, with the author's name at the end. (Browning). Original green cloth with gilt lettering to the upper cover (split to spine seam). Note: William Cockburn was a 'freebooter in the reign of James V' and was executed in 1529 by King James. His story inspired one of Walter Scott's ballads 'The Border Widows Lament'. Provenance: Henry Archibald Cockburn (bookplate to the front pastedown).
