DEARN, T.D.W. Sketches in Architecture; consisting of Original Designs for Cottages and Rural Dwellings, Suitable to Persons of Moderate Fortune, and For Convenient Retirement. London: J. Taylor at the Architectural Library, 1807. First edition, large 4to (329 x 239mm.) Title, description of plates, 20 engraved plates, including 15 in sepia aquatint. (Spotting to rear leaves and plate margins.) Contemporary half-calf (loss to spine ends, lower cover detached, rubbed). Note: in his preface, Thomas Dearn acknowledges the 'approbation' that was heaped upon him for the impracticality of his first series of architectural drawings published the year previously. In this volume he is offering designs that are 'beneficial to others rather than honourable to myself'.
