LOT 2549
Phyllis Dawson - a group of fifteen finely engraved woodcut printing blocks, all depicting various animals, birds and insects, one depicting three shrews, 18cm x 13cm, a cockerel within a landscape with chickens, and an owl perched on a branch, 12.8cm x 16.4cm, together with three metal faced printing blocks. Note: Phyllis Dawson (1903-1993) was an illustrator and wood engraver. Born in London, she went on to study at Clapham School of Art with William Washington, then at Canterbury School of Art under John Austen. Many of her woodcuts depict her garden in Barham or the interior of the antique shop where she lived in Palace Street, Canterbury, as well as the local environs.
