[MURALT, Louis Béat de]. Lettres sur les Anglois et les François. Cologne: [n.p.]., 1725. 8vo (161 x 89mm.) Title in red and black. (Closed tear to the front-free endpaper, browning to pastedowns.) Contemporary calf, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (rubbing to extremities). Note: as opposed to dwelling on landscape or topography, Muralt's work was possibly the first to reflect on the English character from a European viewpoint and as such was an influence on Voltaire's 'Lettres Philosophiques'. - And a further four volumes of 18th century French literature (including M. de Fontenelle's 'Lettres Galantes de Monsieur le Chevalier d' Her***', 1701, 8vo) (5).
