London: Macmillan and Co., 1869. 2 vols., second edition, signed by the author, 8vo (215 x 129mm.) 2 coloured lithographed frontispieces, 6 maps, 8 plates. (Lacking front and rear blanks, toning.) 21st century half-calf over decorative paper-covered boards, gilt lettering to spines (endpapers replaced). Provenance: Inner Temple (several small stamps on preliminaries, and gift inscribed to by the author on the half-title of volume 1) (2).
