POETRY. - John CLARE. Poems Descriptive of Rural Life and Scenery. London: Taylor and Hessey, 1820. Second edition, 12mo (163 x 90mm.) (Browning to title, occasional spotting, lacking half-title and the advertisements to the rear.) Near contemporary brown half calf over marble paper-covered boards, later red morocco lettering piece to spine (rebacked, endpapers replaced, light rubbing). Note: the author's first book, published in a run of 1000. Provenance: Francis Woodland Reader (bookplate to front pastedown).
