RESTIF DE LA BRETONNE, Nicholas Edme. Les Contemporaines, ou Avantures des plus jolies Femmes de l'age present. Leipzig, Pars: Buschel, 1780. Volume 1 (only, of 42). 12mo (166 x 102mm.) 6 engraved plates. (Paper repair to margin of title and last two leaves, toning, blanks replaced.) Early 20th century red half morocco (fading to spine, rubbing, endpapers replaced). Note: this is the first volume of the epic erotic roman-fleuve that was eventually completed in forty-two volumes. - And a further seven volumes in French (including an early French Bible [lacking titles], 8vo, and a further volume relating to France 'Fabliaux or Tales, Abridge from French Manuscripts of the XIIth and XIIIth Centuries by M. Le Grand', 1796, 8vo) (9).
