A Chinese Vung Tao Cargo blue and white porcelain mustard pot and cover with lion knop finial, Kangxi period, of globular form with loop handle, painted with a uniform design of flowers and leafy scroll stems, cut notch to rim, height 9.4cm, bearing partial Vung Tao Cargo label to base (handle repaired). Note: the cut notch providing room for the mustard spoon was undertaken after firing due to a miscommunication between merchant models and the Chinese potters. The fact that these pots occur in the Vung Tao Cargo with their rims already cut is proof the cutting was not done by the buyer in Batavia or The Netherlands, but prior to leaving China.
