CONJURING. - [Angelo J. LEWIS.] 'Professor HOFFMANN'. Modern Magic, A Practical Treatise on the Art of Conjuring. London and New York, George Routledge and Sons, 1878. Third edition, 8vo (192 x 130mm.) Numerous illustrations. (Spotting to preliminaries and rear blank, toning.) Original blue cloth, pictorial gilt and black to spine and upper cover (light rubbing to spine ends, upper hinge weakening). Provenance: C. E. Brun (pencil name to tile-page); Arthur Athelstone Straight (stamp verso the frontispiece). - And a further four books related to magic (including Professor Hoffmann's translation of Robert-Houdin's 'The Secrets of Conjuring and Magic, or How to Become a Wizard', [circa 1880], 8vo', and Professor Hoffmann's 'Tricks With Cards', 1899, 8vo). Provenance: by descent, from the estate of Barry Murray (5).
