CONCHOLOGY. - [Antoine-Joseph Dezallie D'ARGENVILLE. La Conchyliologie… Paris: n.d. circa 1780]. Third edition, 'Atlas' volume only, 4to (279 x 194mm.) 3 engraved frontispieces, including the allegorical plate by Chadel after Boucher, 80 engraved plates of shells after designs by Jacques and Jacques-Guillame de Favanne interleaved with 65pp. in contemporary manuscript hand the names of the shells. (Lacking portrait, marginal damp-staining to the frontispieces, toning, occasional mild spotting.) 20th century black half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards (lightly bumped spine ends). Provenance: B.S. Morton, marine ecologist (bookplate to the front pastedown).
