LOT 1155
A Khmer verdigris bronze ritual conch shell water pourer and stand, probably 12th/13th century, the conch cast in low relief with deity and foliate borders, length 18.8cm, the tripod stand with cast five-headed naga feet, total height 23.7cm. Provenance: from the estate of a West Sussex collector. Note: in Cambodia, conch shells are used in wedding ceremonies to pour fragrant water over the newly married couple. The water is deemed to be purifying and the conch shell symbolises happiness.
