A Japanese Satsuma earthenware jar and cover, Meiji period, the ovoid body painted and gilt with opposing panels of samurai and bijin, reserved against a blue ground with gilt decoration, black and gilt signature including Shimazu mon to base, height 31cm, together with a similar pair of Satsuma vases, painted with bijin and children, iron red and gilt signature to bases, height 24.5cm.
