EGERTON, Clement (translator). The Golden Lotus… a Translation, from the Chinese original, of the novel Chin P'ing Mei. London: George Routledge & Sons Ltd., 1939. 4 vols., 8vo (216 x 132mm.) (Toning, spotting to preliminaries, offsetting to title of vol. 2.) Original green cloth (some spotting and fading to spines, one or two extremities bumped, mark to spine of vol. 3). Note: Egerton worked on his translation with Lao She, the Chinese novelist, but due to the explicit nature of the novel, She did not want to claim credit any credit for the translation. Provenance: Roald Knutsen (name inscribed to front-free endpapers) (4).
