[BRONTE, Charlotte.] 'Currer Bell'. Shirley. London: Smith, Elder and Co., 1849. 3 vols., first edition, 8vo (185 x 104mm.) 3pp. 'Jane Eyre' advertisement to rear of volume 3. (Lacking half-titles and the 16pp. catalogue, toning, spotting to titles, two endpapers with corner loss and 'Contents' leaf of volume 2 torn with loss.) Near contemporary black half morocco over black buckram (volume 1 with boards detached and spine lacking, rubbing to all extremities). Note: Charlotte Bronte's third novel. Provenance: William Hale-White ['Mark Rutherford'] (bookplates to the front pastedowns, and name inscribed verso front-free endpapers) (3).
