                An early 18th century and later silver pair cased keywind gentleman's pocket clock watch, the fine gilt chain fusee movement with verge escapement, crested Egyptian pillars and pierced and engraved balance cock, striking the hours and repeating on a bell, the backplate signed 'Markwick London' and numbered '237', the later enamelled dial with black Arabic hour numerals, the finely engraved silver case with pierced sides, the outer case with pierced apertures to sides, London 1807, the outer case diameter 5.7cm. Note: James Markwick II is a recorded London watchmaker, made free of the Clockmaker's Company in 1692 and master in 1720. His business partner, Robert Markham, who succeeded Markwick's business, became a well-established supplier to the Eastern markets.
