LOT 1007
A mid-18th century silver pair cased keywind open faced gentleman's pocket watch, the gilt fusee movement with verge escapement and pierced and engraved foliate scroll balance cock, the backplate detailed 'Thos Best London 17381', the silvered dial with Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, the centre signed 'Best London', the plain inner case hallmarked London 1763, the outer case repoussé decorated with a classical scene within a scroll and floral border, unmarked, case diameter 4.1cm, outer case diameter 5cm (some faults). Note: Thomas Best is a recorded London watchmaker, working pre-1761 to 1790, known for producing watches for the Dutch market.
