LOT 435
An early 20th century German silver and jewelled historismus flask and cover by Simon Rosenau, modelled in the form of a medieval reliquary figure of a saint seated on a throne, with removeable head, embellished with inset gemstones, marked to base, total weight 980.9g, height 29cm. Note: Simon Hermann Rosenau (born 1861) was from a long-established Jewish family in Bad Kissingen, where he owned and ran a successful jewellery business, as well as owning a jewellery shop and house of residence in Munich. While in Munich, facing the threat of Nazi persecution, Rosenau and his family left Germany in March 1933 for Paris and then Nice. During the German occupancy of Southern France, Simon Rosenau and his wife Paula were arrested on the 23rd October 1943 and taken to the Drancy internment camp. Five days later they were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. The exact date of their deaths is unknown.
