LOT 3020
KAWABATA, Yasunari. Snow Country. London: Secker & Warburg, 1957. First English edition, 8vo (197 x 124mm.) Introduction by Edward G. Seidensticker. (Slight marginal spotting to first leaves, spotting to fore-edge, toning.) Original blue cloth, dust-jacket (closed tear to upper panel, small tear to lower panel, toned). Note: rare. In 1968, Kawabata was the first Japanese author to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. The manner of his death, in 1972, is still disputed. Some think he was haunted by the seppuku suicide of his friend, writer Yukio Mishima, and that he took his own life, too.
Estimate: £300 – £500
