AMERICA. – [Nicholas BIDDLE.] Commercial Regulations of the Foreign Countries with which the United States have Commercial Intercourse. Washington: Gales & Seaton, 1819. First edition, 8vo (213 x 127mm.) Title, errata slip mounted to last leaf, annotation to front-free endpaper, dated 1826. (Occasional browning, scattered spotting.) Contemporary calf, red morocco label to spine (heavily scuffed covers, inner hinge weakened). Note: the book of tariffs put together under John Adams, who was Secretary of State, then later president. A large section deals with the tariffs on trade with the U.K, but also with France, Spain, Russia, Sweden, Netherlands, Naples, Turkey and Haiti. Provenance: Mark L. Hill (ink inscription to front-free endpaper); Library of the Cony Female Academy, Augusta (presentation plate to front pastedown); Kennebec Natural History and Antiquarian Society (‘loan’ plate to front pastedown).
