Two rare mid to late 19th century bronze medallions awarded to Robert Etheridge, comprising a medallion presented by the Geological Society of London, dated 1880, obverse with bust of 'Sir Roderick I. Murchison, Bart, KCB, 1886', reverse detailed 'Siluria', the centre with crossed geological hammers and an arrangement of fossil specimens to quarters, diameter 55mm, and a French presentation medallion, dated 1855, obverse with bust of Napoleon III, reverse with French arms within a border of shields, diameter 60mm, with a blue velvet-lined case, fitted for three medallions, together with another bronze medallion, obverse with central depiction of the Eiffel Tower, reverse detailed 'Souvenir de mon Ascension au 1er Etage de la Tour Eiffel 1889'. Note: Robert Etheridge, FRS, FRSE, FGS (1819-1903), was an English geologist and noted early palaeontologist, who wrote a number of works concerning fossils and their stratigraphical context. He later served as Assistant Keeper of the British Museum's geological department.
