MAUGHAM, Somerset. The Moon and Sixpence. London: William Heinemann, 1919. First edition, first issue, 8vo (185 x 120mm.) Half-title, 4pp. publisher’s advertisements to rear. (Heavily browned, lacking blanks.) Original green cloth (endpapers replaced, spine ends repaired, minor scuffing, discolouring). Note: Maugham’s novel that was based on the life of Paul Gaugin. The first issue has three novels by Israel Zangwill and six works by Eden Phillpotts listed in the publisher’s advertisements. – And a further nineteen volumes by Somerset Maugham (including ‘Of Human Bondage’, 1915, first edition, 8vo, and ‘Cakes and Ale’, 1930, first issue, 8vo, and ‘The Making of a Saint’, 1898, first U.K. edition, 8vo, and ‘The Gentleman in the Parlour’, 1930, 8vo) (20).
