LOT 3148
VECELLIO, Cesare. [Habiti antichi, et moderni di tutto il mondo.] Venice: Bernardo Sessa, 1598. Second edition, 8vo (169 x 110mm.) Title in contemporary manuscript on mounted paper overlay on title, woodcut surround, woodcut initials and decorations, 207 woodcut illustrations of people in Renaissance costume. (Lacking nearly 300 woodcuts and numerous text leaves, text-block broken, marginal losses to title, many leaves with marginal insect-damage, occasional damp-staining). Disbound. Note: an iconic and compendious work showing a vast range of European costume with an element of fantasy, too. Vecellio was a cousin of Titian, studied with him, and it is thought that Titian assisted him in the design of the illustrations.
Estimate: £100 – £200
