A fine Japanese naginata, Edo period. the curved single-edged blade with fine even hamon, blade length 43cm, fine deep-grooved and formed horimono, curved part-length shinogi and fine ko-shinogi tip, the signed tang fitted to a full-length lacquer-finished shaft with shaped copper mounts and cord binding, detailed with gilt-decorated three-headed plant-form mon, and pierced steel hirumaki terminal, overall length 239cm, the blade with lacquered wood scabbard, detailed to both sides with the same mon. Provenance: the collection of the late Roald Knutsen (1933-2025).
