LOT 1170
A pair of China trade watercolour paintings on paper, 19th century, depicting caricatures of sepoys and British infantry, the first with a marching band and infantrymen surrounding a mounted officer, the second with a troop in red uniforms, mounted on piebald horses and pulling a large cannon, 39cm x 63cm, and 35cm x 59cm, and glazed. Note: a sepoy is an indigenous South Asian soldier employed by European powers, most famously during the 18th and 19th centuries by the British East India Company during the colonization of India.
