SYNGE, J.M. The Playboy of the Western World. Dublin: Maunsel & Co. Ltd., 1907. First edition, 8vo (193 x 125mm.) Portrait frontispiece of the author, 4pp. publisher’s advertisements at rear. (Mild toning, endpapers browned.) Original cloth (some staining, spine ends rubbed, damp-staining to lower cover, ink marks to spine). Note: on its Dublin premiere at the Abbey theatre the audience were outraged, especially over the scandalous use of the word ‘shift’.
