LOT 2310
A Russian silver gilt, nephrite jade and cloisonné enamel box and cover, 84 zolotnik, the silver mounted jade cover with cherub finial standing in the centre of a lime green, blue, turquoise, white, red and green enamelled quatrefoil foliate panel, the barrel shaped jade body with similarly decorated enamelled rim and skirted base, marks for St. Petersburg and maker's mark of Anders Navalainen, height 8.5cm (minor faults and enamel loss). Note: Anders Nevalainen was a Finn, born in 1858. He was apprenticed in St. Petersburg in 1874 and became workmaster for Fabergé from 1885. His speciality was small items of silver and gold, working in August Holmstrom's workshop. Nevalainen later opened his own shop while maintaining his contract with Fabergé.
