Early 19th century calf (upper cover detached, endpapers replaced).

BACON, Francis. Sylva Sylvarum: or, A Naturall Historie. In Ten Centuries… published after the author's death by William Rawley. London: for J. H. for William Lee, 1631. Third edition, folio (274 x 174mm.) Portrait frontispiece, additional engraved title dated 1631, with 'New Atlantis. A Worke Unfinished'. (Initial blank replaced, frontispiece laid-down, marginal loss to additional title, ink name erased from title, browning.) Contemporary calf (upper cover detached, worn). Numerous illustrations. Bound in red morocco, gilt vignette of goddess Diana to upper cover, g.e., (faint mark to lower cover), slipcase. Provenance: Francis Russell Flint (from the family, by descent).

Limited edition, this being number 239 of 550 copies and signed by William Russell Flint, 4to (276 x 188mm.) Colour frontispiece, numerous sepia illustrations. (Toning, some spotting to fore-edge.) Original cream parchment over blue cloth boards, gilt vignette to upper cover, blue cloth slipcase (fading, slight spotting). Note: the inscription reads 'My dearest Lottie's copy of my Herrick, from Willie, April 1955'. Provenance: Charlotte Elizabeth Flint, William Russell Flint's sister (gift inscribed to in pencil on the front-free endpaper).

Limited edition, this being number 87 of 200 copies, small folio (312 x 186mm.) Title vignette and engraved illustration by J. Yunge Bateman. (Small closed tear to frontispiece.) Original red cloth, pictorial gilt to upper cover, glassine dust-wrapper (chipping, small tears). Note: contains a 'Compliments' note from Christopher Sandford, proprietor of the Golden Cockerel at this time. The recipient was William Russell Flint who writes in pencil on the front-free endpaper 'Received 27.8.58 with Christopher Sandford's compliments/ the illustrations are just laborious vulgarities, WRF'. Flint has also written 'Illustrations vulgar beyond words!' on the compliment slip itself. Provenance: William Russell Flint (initials inscribed on front-free endpaper, from the family by descent).

CRANE, Walter. Of the Decorative Illustration of Books Old and New. London: George Bell and Son, 1896. First edition, 8vo (182 x 140mm.) Numerous illustrations. (Toning, blanks replaced.) Later blue morocco bound by Sangsorki and Suctcliffe with William Russell Flint's key design to upper cover, t.e.g. (slight mark to upper cover). Note: on the front pastedown in William Russell Flint's hand it says the book was awarded to him by the Board of Education, South Kensington, for the 'National Art Competition 1900'. 'What was subject? Anatomy: Bones', he writes. He also notes that he had the book rebound in 1969- which was the year of his death. Provenance: William Russell Flint (inscribed with pencil notes on the front pastedown, from the family by descent).

FLINT, William Russell (illustrator). - George LONG (translator). The Thoughts of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. London: Philip Lee Warner, 1909. Limited edition, this being number 111 of 500 copies, 4to (265 x 198mm.) 12 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue-guards. (Toning, browning to front-free endpaper.) Original cloth-backed paper-covered boards with paper labels mounted to upper cover and spine, t.e.g. (browning to board edges and spine). Note: loosely inserted an invitation to meet Russell Flint 'daily until December 24th at the Medici Society Gallery which held the exhibition of his water-colours for this work. - And a further fifteen volumes, most illustrated by William Russell Flint, three of them inscribed by him (including 'Pictures from the Artist's Studio: Sir William Russell Flint R.A.', 1962, 8vo) (16). Limited edition, this being one of 275 copies signed by the artist, this one of 35 not for sale and lettered 'J', folio (347 x 204mm.) Numerous plates. (Toning, spotting to title-page.) Original blue morocco over white buckram-covered boards, t.e.g. (sunning to spine, small stain to upper cover). Provenance: William Russell Flint (from the family, by descent).

FLINT, William Russell. [The Lisping Goddess. N.p.: 1968.] Folio (346 x 212mm.) 26 plates, 2 in colour, of proof illustrations for 'The Lisping Goddess', signed by William Russell Flint on initial blank, numerous blank leaves, some pencil annotation by the artist. (Toning.) Dark blue morocco boards bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe with Flint's key design in gilt to the upper cover, gilt lettering to spine, t.e.g. Note: on the second initial blank Flint has written in pencil 'All the pencil drawings (except Neptune) were made direct from the figureheads in the lower hold of the Cutty Sark, in a very poor light. Scarcely any touches were added at home'. Provenance: William Russell Flint (from the family, by descent).

Limited edition, this being number 270 of 275 copies signed by the artist, folio (346 x 204mm.) Numerous plates. (Toning.) Red morocco bound by Bayntum's, with Flint's three Nereid's in gilt to the upper cover, t.e.g., slipcase (slight rubbing). Note: the first 25 copies were bound in full morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe. This number was originally bound by Mansell in half morocco. Flint himself had this copy rebound by Bayntum. He writes in pencil on the front-free endpaper, 'W. Russell Flint, first bound copy received from Bayntum, Nov. 25 1967'. (Lacking heraldic frontispiece, browning, marginal damp-stain to preliminaries, paper repairs and staining to initial blanks, central crease to most plates, minor soiling). Contemporary vellum, blind-stamped device to covers, two red morocco lettering pieces to spine (upper joint splitting, soiling to covers). Provenance: Jeremiah Milles (armorial bookplate to front pastedown).

Folio (346 x 249mm.) 20th century colour plate as frontispiece, 3 later plates mounted and bound-in as replacements, 4 engraved headpieces, 1 facsimile of Nelson's hand-writing, 1 double-paged plate, 3 engraved plates, 1 aquatint headpiece to rear, 1p. publisher's advertisement to rear. (Lacking original frontispiece, lacking originals of 3 plates, no hand-colouring, occasional spotting and browning.)
